The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says infant formula sold online and at Costco is being recalled due to concerns about toxins that could cause food poisoning.

The federal agency said one-kilogram containers of Candamil brand infant formula, which have “with whole milk” on the label, may contain ceruleide, a toxin that can quickly cause nausea and vomiting.

Ceruleid is not destroyed by heat and can survive at temperatures that would normally kill bacteria.

The CFIA said no one has reported being sick and the withdrawal is due to someone being sick in another country.

Amazon too Listed as recalled Infant formula is available on its website from Monday.

Nestlé and Danone have recently issued baby formula recalls due to possible contamination with the same toxin.

European-based company Kendall Nutricare said cerulein was recently combined with arachidonic acid oil, a source of omega 6, and during a short supply disruption, the company used a different oil supply than usual for two batches of infant formula sold at Costco in Canada.

Those batches were produced in May 2025 and their codes – 897274 and 888632 – can be found on the base of the tin.

The company said these batches still pass European safety guidance for ceruleid levels in infant formula, but Health Canada has a different standard.

Candamil’s notice said: “Health Canada has requested a precautionary recall of any batches whose ingredient sources could theoretically be affected. This is despite laboratory test results for those specific batches demonstrating compliance with strict safety limits set by the scientific community and now being adopted internationally.”
