Ludhiana: The family of 19-year-old Kamaljeet Singh, who was murdered in a late-night altercation, organised a candlelight march in Sarabha Nagar market on Wednesday to demand the arrest of the remaining suspects. They expressed their anguish over the ongoing freedom of the two accused who are on the run, Sandeep and Sunil, who they claim are mocking both the family and law enforcement.
Kamaljeet’s mother, Jatinder Kaur, from Mohalla Adarsh Nagar, stated that the two suspects are communicating with Kamal’s friends, sending messages that they are untouchable despite the ongoing investigation. “They are mocking my son’s murder,” she said, urging authorities to apprehend the suspects swiftly.
The police have arrested three individuals—Happy Rajput, Ankit, and Shiva—who were involved in the fatal attack outside a liquor vend near the Ludhiana railway station. However, Sandeep and Sunil remain at large. Jatinder Kaur mentioned that some of Kamal’s friends are willing to provide statements about the threats they have received from the absconding suspects, yet feel ignored by law enforcement.
Assistant commissioner of police Anil Kumar Bhanot assured the public that police are actively conducting raids to locate the fugitives. He confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and emphasized their commitment to bringing all responsible parties to justice.
In the wee hours of Nov 24, Kamaljeet was attacked by a group of five after a dispute over purchasing a beer bottle escalated into violence. He was attacked with sluggers and sticks before he died in a hospital.
