Other people’s problems40:41Welcome to other people’s problems – on drugs

Some Canadians who are suffering from mental illness are turning to psychidelic therapy that use cannabis instead of better-known psychidelix such as cellosybins.

In cycadelic therapy-an emerging area, no matter what substances-(sparrows use drugs that change their consciousness under the supervision of a trained physician, to help in hard-to-treat conditions.

In the right circumstances, canbis therapy may have a useful tool, Vancouver registered psychologist Hillary McBrid says it is also included that it is easier to access compared to some psychide.

Not only is 19 and more people in Canada, canbis is legal, but is familiar with determining it, she says, “meaning that people can go to their doctor … and talk about drug interactions and talk about health risks.”

In contrast, to reach psilocybin or MDMA for psychidelic therapy, a health care professional must apply for a professional Special Access Program of Health Canada (SAP) From the patient.

Mcbride CBC hosts podcast Other people’s problemsWhich takes listeners to medical sessions with their customers. The new season of the show especially focuses on psychidelic psychiatry sessions, which is using canbis.

McBrid said, “Hope is that people should hear a little about what it seems, that we … around this process create some demonetisation.”

But physicians and researchers warn that this approach is not suitable – or safe – for all, and research is still in its initial stage.

What does treatment looks like

While the human has been used and used for thousands of years, medical research is very new in its use.

Compared to other psychidelix used in therapy, there is very little research on the psychidelic effects of the cannabis, using it alone in psychotherapy, a addiction psychiatrist and assistant professor Dr. David Volinyi says, who is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine at Baltmore.

But he says that it is described in literature as a psychidelic effect of the cannabis, showing enough possible promises to give further research.

Volinsky is the lead writer of one Literature review on psychidelic effects Canbis published in Psychopharmacology Journal in January 2024.

In cannabis as well as other psychide-in the right medical settings, a properly trained mental health provider says that he and others are seeing good results for treatment-resistant cases, especially trauma, depression, anxiety and obsessive disorder disorder.

She says that the cannabis can function on the brain and body in such a way that makes it easy to reach the key of some feelings and sensations to work through hard goods in therapy.

“After all, what we are trying to do … help people feel some of their feelings, solve some separation that can separate them from the sensation that their body is giving them,” he said.

For an external observer, a psychidely assisted therapy session may not look different from a regular medical session, “except for more conversations about consent, safety and choice and readiness,” said McBrid. “And people are not clearly running homes with appointments.”

She says who is leaving the person or picking up the person, and the room may have a nurse or other additional health care provider.

‘Risk factor’ for mental health conditions

But while the cannabis is easier to reach compared to other psychidellix, it still risks.

Dr. Jennifer Swenson, a psychiatrist and a psychiatrist and associate clinical professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, warns against cannabis in psychiatry.

The Swenson College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta are the chairman of the Psychycalic Psychiatry Accreditation Committee, developing and modifies those standards to meet the clinics to offer such medical in the province.

“Cannabis is not really very strongly recommended for use in people with mood disorders or anxiety disorders. And in general, in medicine, we consider it a risk factor for the development of mental health conditions,” Squenson said.

He said that this risk is complex for young people, as the brain is still developing till the age of 25.

Alberta stated that Alberta is the first province to make mandatory recognition for clinics that provides psychidelic or ketamine-aid psychiatry, “and hopefully follow other provinces,” Squenson said.

“But I have been out to recognize many of these features and have never encountered the person who wants to use cannabis yet. And I think, within Alberta, it will probably not meet the recognition standards.”

Macbridge It is said that treatment is certainly not suitable for all patients.

“Especially with cannabis, there is a risk of mental episodes; the risk of deteriorating health conditions, and so with any drug, it is not right for everyone,” he said.

“And the more thoughtful we can be, I think we can have better results.”

Not for therapy

In an episode of Problems of other people, A patient referred to to use the pseudo -name brandy said that using cannabis, therapy has helped some of its mental health conflicts with his upbringing in a religious cult.

He said, “The biggest thing for me with this particular type of therapy was that it was a huge lack of my social anxiety,” he said. “This work has been the most transformational, and I have many, many different types of treatment.”

In the background, a woman seems to be sitting in a small appointment room.
Cycadelic psychotherapy, whether one of the more installed with cannabis or more installed, works best when there is a high degree of trust already installed between the patient and health professionals, says McBrid, McBrid says. :

Nearly one and a half years after the session was recorded, he said, “This stable progress has been made in a positive direction around my social concern, and I would say at this point, I am really unfamiliar to the person I was then.”

But a large part of her improvement, she says, she has a strong medical relationship with McBrid, which she has been working for more than seven years.

This is important, says Macbrid. She says that clinically the best results are with those who have an established history in medicine, she says.

“This is not something we are presenting to those who have said,” Oh, my friend goes to a doctor and he feels better and I want to go to a doctor too. ” ,

Similarly, psychidelic cannabis therapy is not something that a person should either take an approach to himself.

“Trauma therapy is not what you are in bus or car or at home at home or at home, okay? These are specific sets of techniques that we use in some contexts. But the point is to get closer to the place where there is unresolved experience.”

Limited research

In Johns Hopkins, Dr. Wolinski says that the research he had seen was designed to establish whether the cannabis could remove the so -called mysterious experiences, a psychological system at least wondered why some people have success in psychidelic psychiatry.

Volinsi says that it is a compelling field for further studies, the existing research was limited to the retrospective type, where people respond to the questionnaire after their experience, an attitude that people can miss.

How the canbis affects parts of the brain to talk to each other, Volinski said that some neuroimming studies “at least suggested that perhaps canbis could affect the method that we process the information.” It may be interrupted as “what is known as a default mode network, which is more rigid, like a way of thinking.”

However, when his reviews were published, neuroimming conclusions for both classic psychide and cannabis were “very inconsistent” and no studies were done compared to both, he said.

He said, his examination of research concluded that there is a qualification in further studies of the cannabis as a psychidelic therapy.

“I think it is good that people are looking at these substances as a potential novel treatment, and continue to look at it harshly,” Volinsi said.

No magic pill

Both he and McBrid were clear that any type of psychidelic medicine should not be seen as a magic pill.

“I think a lot of psychiatry, for most cases, it’s not just medicine,” said Volinsi. “It is also engaged in medicine. It is developing a healthy lifestyle option, exercise, healthy diet, connection with others.”

McBrid said that this therapy is not right for everyone, it is “it is not appropriate to say that it is bad for everyone and is dangerous for everyone.”

“In some cases it is saving people’s lives.”
