Via Rail and Uniphore reaches a temporary agreement, avoiding a strike

The Crown Corporation said on Friday that the rail has reached a temporary deal with the union representing 2,400 workers across the country.

The deal is a walkout to include members of the Uniphore, who voted for a strike mandate in early Sunday.

Uniphore says that temporary agreement provides benefits in wages, job protection and working conditions.

The Union represents workers in railway stations, maintenance centers, customer care centers, administrative offices and in board trains.

Unifor did not release the details of the deal, preferring to inform his members in the coming meetings in the coming weeks.

Via Rail has stated that it was committed to a fair and appropriate agreement, while the rest provides competitive and quality service.

The two parties broke the contract negotiations earlier this month, establishing the platform for a possible strike.

Via railway contract negotiation broke forward from 22 June

Via Rail and Uniphore have stopped contract talks. The union says that Via Rail is refusing to fix problems with a work assignment system, which has ‘reduced low hours and low salary’. The management says it is bargaining in good faith and expects to reach a new agreement before the 22 June strike deadline.
