Doctors are turning to AI scripts to take medical notes. Quebec wants to test it

Disappointed by Heavy paperwork It is eaten with patients in its time, some doctors in Quebec are moving to artificial intelligence tools to streamline the transcription of their medical notes during consultation.

Now, the Crown Corporation Sentie Cubec, which oversees the province’s health care network, is planning to launch a pilot project to see these techniques with the goal of expanding their use in the health care system.

A family doctor located in Montreal, Dr. Felix Lê-Phat-Hô is using one of the equipment for one year and says that it has reduced their mental load and improved their service quality.

“This is a huge impact in my clinical practice,” he said about the tool plum AI.

Lê-Phat-Hô says that the tool prevents him from doing two to three hours of paperwork daily, allowing him to see three more patients a day.

Right now, only applications that have obtained official certification from Santa Quebec, can be used by guaranteeing data security.

Plum AI, built by a group of Quebec doctors, is one of these approved platforms. Its co-founder, emergency room doctor Dr. James Tu says that 10 percent of doctors already use their application in Quebec-at about 2,000 doctors.

For Lê-Phat-Hô, the benefits speak for themselves. “You focus your attention completely on the patient, and the patients really appreciate it because they may feel that they have full attention to their doctor.”

“So it is really like a winning position for both the patient and my two.”

The Quebec government says it is starting a pilot project that includes artificial intelligence transcription equipment for health care professionals, with an increasing number of stating that they cut in time when they spend in filling paperwork.

How does this work?

Plum AI is an application that doctors can download on your phone or your computer.

At the beginning of consultation, they explain to the patient what the application does and seeks consent before recording the exchange.

If the patient accepts, the doctor starts recording, and the consultation moves like it will be normally: the patient explains his problem, the doctor asks the question, talks about the diagnosis and treatment plan.

“It doesn’t matter what was the flow of discussion, what was the interview, what was the language, what the patient’s pronunciation was,” you said. “Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, it is capable of understanding the context of each discussion.”

Once the consultation ends, the doctor stops the transcription, and the plum AI generates a structured medical note based on the discussion. In this way, doctors do not need to take detailed notes during consultation, or during or at the end of their day, the TU says that the TU says that the “heavy” amount can be taken.

Instead, they can focus on the patient in front of them. He says that he is able to see six more patients a day in an emergency room for technology.

He said, “I have done this,” he said “not to talk to the patient, not to fill the paperwork.”

Cyber security concerns

Lê-Phat-Hô says that he was initially suspicious of using AI in his practice, concerned about the risks of privacy of his patients.

A cyber security specialist, éric parents, share this concern. He says that data will need to be stored locally and locally within a controlled environment to avoid risk, and that should be a protocol to establish who is legally responsible for the data.

She also hopes that startup companies taking advantage of this technology invest in strong security measures.

“When you cut the corners with cyber security … we are creating a dependence on this technique, so if the system, for example, is unavailable, what will happen?” He said. “And so these systems should be built at the safety level or flexibility level, the quality level we really need.”

Plum AI locally stores its data in Quebec, and the new data automatically disappears after 24 to 48 hours, by remedies that assure measures.

Two, co-founder of the tool, are expected to cooperate with more health care professionals who can benefit from technology, such as nurses, social workers, physiotherapists and dentists.

He is eager to potentially collaborate with Sant Cubec for the pilot project to study the effects of this technology on the medical field.

He said, “I think the entry of artificial intelligence in the health world is unavoidable. It should be regulated, well supervised, direction -guidelines,” he said.

“But for once, we are able to reach technology in the health system that is not the case behind time.”
