After Canada workers vote against the latest contract motion

In the Canada Post, the union workers have voted against the latest contract proposal of Crown Corporation.

According to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board, the proposal was rejected with 68.5 percent ballot papers (23,440), in which 80.4 percent of a total (34,228 voters of 42,574) were reported.

The vote comes after a conversation of over one and a half years with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), which represents about 55,000 postal service workers.

The proposal included an increase of wages of about 13 percent in four years, but it would have added part -time workers that the Canada Post has said that the postal service is necessary to preserve the service.

Federal Job Minister Patty Hazdu asked the Canadian Industrial Relations Board to step into step and keep the latest proposal of Canada Post for one vote.

CUPW national president Jan Simpson had urged the federal workers to reject the proposal to protect the integrity of the voting process, and he criticized Hajdu for voting.

He said, “Yes, we tell them that it is acceptable to ignore the union’s democratic processes and structures, saying it is acceptable to ignore the independent and fair collective bargaining, and sends a message to the governments that it is okay to trample his rights as a worker,” he said in a statement published on July 17.
