26L relief for bizman in mishap case

Thane: Over five years after a 38-year-old businessman sustained grievous injury in a road accident in 2019, he has been awarded Rs 26.38 lakhcompensation.
The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Thane, presided over by member SN Shah held the owners of the offending vehicle, a motor tanker, and its insurer jointly and severally liable for the compensation.
According to the petition, the businessman was standing near his motorcycle parked on the extreme left of LBS Road at Kurla when a tanker collided with the stationary vehicle, injuring him and his friend around 3 pm. He was rushed to a nursing home nearby and later transferred to City Hospital due to his critical condition. His treatment continues to date.
The businessman suffered serious injuries, including a right lower fibula fracture. The petition sought compensation based on his annual income of Rs 8.42 lakh as per tax records. — Nishikant Karlikar
