Statistics Canada said Friday that Canada’s unemployment rate fell to 6.5 per cent and the economy added 54,000 jobs in November.
After trending upward for most of the year, the unemployment rate fell several points from 6.9 percent in October, even reaching 7.1 percent in September.
Most of the jobs added to the economy in November were part-time and largely driven by employment gains among youth aged 15 to 24.
This growth was driven by several sectors, including health care and social assistance, housing and food services, and natural resources. But jobs were lost in wholesale and retail trade.
On an annual basis, the average hourly wage increased 3.6 percent or $1.27 to $37.00 per hour.
