Federal government will work as more pharmacore deals, Carney says

Prime Minister Mark Carney says that his government is committed to signing pharmacare deals with all provinces and regions, the months of ending speculation about the program have been abolished.

The liberals launched the first phase of the National Pharmacore program last year to cover the cost of contraceptives and some diabetes drugs, with the support of NDP.

The pharmacker law passed for the final decline required that the federal government should negotiate funding deals with provinces and areas.

So far, only Manitoba, BC, Pei and Yukon have hit such deals. The four agreements have more than 60 percent of the pharmacare money which are different in the previous budget.

Prior to this summer, the office of Health Minister Marjori Mitchell said that liberals were committed to protect the existing deals only.

At a news conference in Edmonton on Thursday, Carney said that the upcoming federal budget would include some difficult options for the protection of programs such as pharmacare and dental care.
