Chrysler recalls 20,000 Jeep vehicles in Canada due to faulty batteries that could cause fire
Chrysler is recalling hundreds of thousands of Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles due to faulty batteries that can fail and catch fire.
The recall applies to more than 20,000 vehicles in Canada, 320,000 in the US and more than 30,000 in other markets.
Chrysler, which is owned by Netherlands-based Stellantis, is aware of 19 fires and one injury potentially related to the issue, which was discovered through an internal investigation.
The batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Owners of vehicles – including some jeeps wrangler 4xe Vehicles with model years between 2020-2025 and some jeep grand cherokee 4xe suv With model years 2022-2026 – vehicles are being advised to park outside and away from structures until a solution to the problem can be determined.
According to the company, vehicle owners should also avoid charging the vehicles as the risk increases if the battery drains.
Interim notification letters are expected to be mailed to vehicle owners by December 2, with additional letters sent once final measures are available.
