CSMT Subway Gets Innovative Ventilation System for Improved Air Quality | Mumbai News

Advanced ventilation system installed in CSMT pedestrian subway

Mumbai: The BMC has installed an advanced ventilation system in the pedestrian subway attached to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Station Terminus to maintain air circulation. This system includes nine jet fans and high-capacity central fans to aid air circulation in the underground passage. Additionally, two high-capacity fans are also being installed centrally to expel air from the passage. The system is designed similarly to those used in tunnels to ensure air circulation throughout the area.
“This new system will help keep the air flowing and reduce the temperature, reducing discomfort during large crowds. Additionally, hot air from the passage will be expelled through a central system. The system also considers potential fire incidents. In such events, the central fans will activate at double speed and capacity, helping to quickly expel smoke, thereby aiding visibility for individuals in the passage,” said the BMC.
Currently, to ensure air circulation, a system is already in place. However, given the heavy usage of the subway, a few additions to the system have been made.
