Fernie, BC, a discovered fossil, identified as new species
The furniture, an Ichthiosaur fossil discovered near BC, has been sitting in the Ottawa Museum for more than a century, was recently identified as a new species by a team of scientists.
Fernatter presentcy There is a sea hunter that looked similar to a dolphin, present about 250 million years ago, and disappeared before the dinosaurs had 66 million years ago.
The fossil was originally discovered by Tom Prantis in 1916 when he was fishing in the Elk River, about 12 kilometers south of the furniture, which is about 940 kilometers east of Vancouver.

“They alerted the coal company about this discovery because they felt that they had the means to remove it,” Peliantologist Jordan Malon said CBC day.
The coal company donated fossils in the Canadian Geological Survey, which eventually became the Canadian museum of Canadian Nature, where Mallon works and helps identify fossils.
Mallone studies dinosaurs and said that when he started working in the museum in Ottawa more than a decade ago, he saw that fossils were sitting on shelves and provoked his curiosity.

He shown Judy Masare, an Ichthiosaur researcher and professor Emeritus at the State University of New York Brockport, a picture of fossils and asked him what his views were about it. After that, the pair began working together to try and identify fossils.

Mallon said it was not clear at first that fossil was a new species. Scientists initially thought that the fossil was an ichthiosaurus, a famous species of Europe.
“The closer we saw, the more we realized that there were a lot of anomalies,” he said.
The body size of ichthyosaur fossil is large, and why are some “Nitti-Gritti Features of the skull” Fernatter presentcy,

Fernatter means “Fernny swimmer,” is named after the city of Ferni and the rock formation comes from the fossil, called the Ferni Formation.

‘The most complete Ichthyosaur Skeleton in North America’
Mallon said the animal found the dates of 190 million years ago, and this is the most complete utthiosor that has been discovered in North America.
In the field of fossil science, finding a complete skeleton of any animal is rare.
He said, “We first know about these animals from BC, but it is only based on a piece of front flipper, or there,” he said.
“This is important because it tells us that these things are out, if only we peel our eyes then we are likely to find more.”
