Day 68:10How Puzzles by Trump’s tariffs is a peaceful hobby of puzzles

Puzzle people are used to put pieces in their place. But the Canadian-US trade war chaos is ending the industry, leaving the business owners to take the pieces.

“This is uncertainty. It is almost impossible to navigate,” Bruce Donley said Day 6,

Donnelly is the owner of Puzzles Canada, located in Georgetown, Ontaras. It is one of the largest puzzle retail vendors in Canada, stocking 92 Ara brands and thousands of different riddles. It ships thousands of them every week.

But the current trade war has taken a large piece from those orders. And with constant uncertainty around the tariff, several puzzle retail vendors on both sides of the border are concerned about the future of their businesses.

Tariff

In March, Canada announced its anti -retraction tariff against Donald Trump and the US, including 25 percent tariffs on the Ara puzzle made in the US and Donley did not have a chance to react.

“We had shipments that were the routes. We had no choice. We had to pay the tariff,” he said.

Do not want to cost your customers, Paheli Canada paid the difference.

Even though Americans make only 20 percent of the Canadian customer base, Donley says he feels the effect. Half of the brands selling Donley are made in China, making them expensive to send them to American customers.

Initially, the US put 145 percent tariffs on the goods sent from China. It has been reduced by 30 percent since then.

“We are definitely taking (a hit),” said Donley.

The company has to adjust. Ever since he was to stop shipment of China-China puzzles in the US, as they were very high. They had to increase the price for all the customers of the game from the White Mountain Pazles, Springbol Pazels and the New York Pazal Company, which are all American-made, although they did not give an accurate figure.

Donley is bringing more riddles from Europe, and he can continue selling customers in Canada. Nevertheless, Donley says that his US sales may be cut half.

And these are not just companies in Canada that are struggling.

Mia Galison, the owner of Eboo Corporation, is located in New York and sells Ara puzzles and children’s toys. But many of its products are manufactured in China.

“This is disastrous. We are a very small company. We do not work on a huge margin,” Galison said.

“We are hoping that there are some reasons with these tariffs or we carve some kind for small businesses or carving to the toy industry.”

To complete the ends, Gallicon has also increased the prices of its riddles. Even with an increase, she is trying to keep them under each $ 25 US, but says it is not enough for the cost of tariffs.

Puzzle, bowling balls and toilet seats

These are not just puzzles that are caught in the crossfire of trade war. Others seem to be slapped with an anti-man-made products, such as toilet seats and bowling balls, with an anti-retail tariff by the Canadian government. But why?

The Canadian government has not provided an accurate explanation for each product in that list, but international lawyer Lawrence Harman says those measures were placed to provoke maximum pain in the United States.

“These items are carefully designed to ensure that they affect companies, producers, exporters in areas where American politicians may be affected by influence,” Harman said. Cost of living,

“One or another area that is affected by these Canadian tariffs, she will complain to her senator or her member of Congress, asking to remove the tariff on Canada. This is the full idea behind these lists.”

Meanwhile, Harman says that Canadian companies will have to ships in other markets such as Europe and Asia-Pacific region.

Everything from bowling balls to toilet seats is in the list of Canada’s counter tariffs. But how does Ottawa choose which items are chosen? Producer Blair talks to businesses affected by Sanderson tariff and asks, “Why them?”

One of the solutions may be to move manufacturing from China to America or Canada. But Gallicon of Abo says that it is not an easy axis. She says that her company will take decades to develop her own manufacturing in the US, which will create puzzles on the quality she is looking for. And she cannot tolerate such an effort.

For Gallicon, this is not just a case of a slight decline in profit. She worries about her business, and many others, perhaps it cannot make it until the end of the year.

Gallicon said, “When you think about it, empty shelves are an unpleasant image.”

“But a thousand times more unpleasant … Truck drivers and dock workers and sales representatives and small businesses and owners of small businesses, who are no longer a business.”
