Ludhiana: A 42-year-old woman found dead under mysterious circumstances in her Jawahar Nagar home on Saturday was strangled to death, an autopsy revealed on Sunday. Police have arrested her husband, who initially claimed she had collapsed due to low blood pressure.
The victim, Suman, had been married for 20 years to Rinku, a class-IV bank employee. The couple had three children — two sons and a daughter.Suman’s family alleged that Rinku was an alcoholic who harassed her regularly and had been involved in an extramarital affair uncovered six months ago. Even though the family had intervened to resolve the matter at the time, tensions persisted.
On Saturday, Rinku reportedly informed Suman’s family that she had lost consciousness due to low blood pressure. However, when they arrived at the house, they discovered strangulation marks on her neck and alerted the cops. Inspector Balwant Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the Division 5 police station, stated on the basis on an inquiry that Suman and Rinku had a strained relationship, largely due to Rinku’s drinking habits. On the night of her death, Rinku allegedly came home intoxicated, leading to an argument.
Suman reportedly slapped Rinku during the altercation, which escalated into violence. Police claim Rinku strangled her in a fit of rage and later claimed she had died by suicide.
The police registered a murder case and arrested Rinku. This case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and its devastating impact on families, bringing renewed focus to the need for support systems and awareness initiatives.
