Another dead gray whale has washed ash in British Columbia in less than a week.

Fisheries and oceans Canada have confirmed that the latest dead whale was reported near the Skidegate community in Hada Gwai on 11 May, and a marine mammal response team is working with the local first nation to coordinate a necropy.

The cause of death is unknown, and fisheries and oceans Canada say that it may take up to three months to confirm what happened through the Necropy Report.

The northern Pacific has three gray whale population, and the federal department says it is not able to establish which was the dead animal found on Heda Gwai.

The latest case comes after Parks Canada, which was seen floating a dead whale from Vancouver Island on 6 May, before it used to wash the ashes on Long Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve near Tofino. Two population is classified as endangered.

The department states that the Whale was part of the eastern Northern Pacific population, which was evaluated in 2005 as a special concern under the federal species in the Risk Act.

Some whales ‘literally hungry for death’: Specialist

Anna Hall, a maritime biologist with marine visual marine science, states that he is worried, but not surprised by recent deaths, which indicates a decline in the whale number seen in Pacific.

“Upon returning to February this year, Mexican scientists were registering a 90 percent decrease in calf production,” she said. “Essentially the beach in Mexico … effectively dead gray whales and many … were lying with very thin looking animals.”

The hall states that the gray whale faces many dangers, including the ship attacks, entangles and contact with nearby pollutants. A warming arctic is also affecting their main food sources.

“Some of them are really killing,” he said.

Eastern North Pacific Gray Whale had a population Has severely terminated By commercial whaling in the 20th century, the record climb reached by the 1960s.

The hall says, “How many people were left after whaling, we didn’t really know. Was it tens or whether it was hundreds or perhaps thousands? We don’t know,” says the hall.

After security started in 1967, the population started growing but once again declining, he said.

“We have a few years ago numbers similar to the population size of the late 1960s, for me, it is very, very related.”

Prominent investigator Juan Jose Alva, along with the Ocean Pollution Research Unit at BC University, says similar trends were seen between 2017 and 2021, when more than 500 gray whales were found dead with West Coast from Mexico to Alaska.

Alva said, “Many of these persons were found to be very weak … they did not have enough blubber.” “This means that there was some issue related to the availability of food.”

Alva says that the shrinking of sea ice in the Arctic feeding ground can disrupt the food chain.

“This may be related to climate change and disruption in the ecosystem,” he said.

Alva says that warming reduces the area for the growth of ocean and low sea ice algae, which is a little eaten by the gray whale.

The federal department has warned people not to touch the dead whale and keep dogs lease, and also ask that the whale that is harassed or is disturbed to report to the agency immediately.

Park Canada says that although the loss of whale can be difficult to observe, it also provides important nutrients to other animals and environment.

When the whales often place themselves on the beach when sick or injured, Florida’s fish and wildlife foundation estimates that around 2,000 whales come on posture every year.
