Ludhiana: Masked thieves broke into Shri Durga Mata temple at Bassiyan Bet village of this district, stealing cash from the donation box and an LCD screen on Tuesday night. The incident, reminiscent of a similar theft at the temple last year, has left locals questioning security measures. Police are analyzing CCTV footage to track the culprits, who fled the scene on a motorcycle. The duo arrived at the temple around 1.11 am. One of the thieves acted as a lookout near the motorcycle, while the other broke the donation-box lock and the glass casing of the LCD. On Oct 14 last year, thieves stole an inverter, a battery, and cash from the same temple and dumped those on a deserted road of the village.

The Madras High Court dismissed a plea concerning buildings exceeding the nine-meter height restriction around Madurai’s Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. A 1997 government order imposing the restriction was previously overturned in 2009, rendering the current petition irrelevant. The original plea argued these taller buildings obstructed views of the temple towers. An earlier report identified 525 structures violating the now-defunct height limit.
