At 16.8 C, city records 2nd lowest min temp in 10 yrs

Mumbai: At 16.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the city recorded the second-lowest minimum temperature for the month of Nov in a decade. Previously, the lowest recorded Nov temperature was 16.3 degrees in 2016. Weather officials said the chill will stay, with a further drop expected anytime between Nov 28 and 29.
While IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 16.8 degrees, which was 3.8 degrees below normal, the one at Colaba logged 22.5 degrees, which was 0.6 degrees below normal.
Meanwhile, day temperatures were below normal too, making afternoons pleasant for the city. IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded maximum temperatures of 32.4 degrees and 33.6 degrees, which were 1.2 degrees and 0.3 degrees below normal.
IMD, in its forecast for Wednesday, said maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees and 17 degrees. The all-time lowest minimum temperature in the city for the month was 13.3 degrees on Nov 19, 1950.
Sushma Nair, a scientist from IMD Mumbai, said, “The cool conditions have come in earlier than usual. The reason is northerly winds. We expect a slight further dip by Nov 28-29, after which temperatures will rise. Weather conditions will remain pleasant though.”
