Mumbai: A temporary walkway will be constructed to link Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport‘s Terminal 2 (T2) with the adjacent underground station of Mumbai Metro Line 3 to alleviate commuter inconvenience. Currently, it takes passengers nearly 15 minutes to cover the distance on foot.
The measure aims to streamline access between the Metro line and the airport while work progresses on Metro Line 7A’s T2 station. Passengers face a circuitous route due to construction activities for Metro Line 7A, which extends the existing Metro Line 7 (Gundavali-Dahisar) to T2. The project, managed by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to become operational by Dec 2026. On Nov 26, senior officials from the urban development department, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), MMRDA, Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) conducted a site inspection to explore temporary connectivity solutions. “Aseem Kumar Gupta, principal secretary, urban development department, has directed all agencies to expedite the construction of a temporary walkway above the Metro 7A site to ensure seamless connectivity and enhance commuter experience,” said a Metro official. — Manthan K Mehta
