Measles infections continue to rise in Northeast B.C., with new data showing the virus is spreading in workplaces and public spaces around Fort St. John.

BC Center for Disease Control reported As of Thursday there were 29 new confirmed and probable infections in the region, nine of which were considered active.

Recent exposure alerts have been issued for local hospitals, restaurants, banks, grocery stores and businesses in the city’s airport area.

Multiple exposures have also been recorded in the emergency room at Dawson Creek Hospital.

since one outbreak began In May, a total of about 275 cases have been reported, the majority of which are in and around Fort St. John.

Health officials say the virus is spreading rapidly among unvaccinated households and believe the real number of infections is likely higher than reported.
