Rogers launching new satellite-to-mobile text messaging trial
Rogers Communications Inc. has introduced a new satellite-to-mobile text messaging service, marking the latest steps in its partnership with SpaceX and Link Global, eventually providing full satellite-to-phone coverage in apps, data and voice service.
The company says its Rogers Satellite Text Service, including the Text -to -911 capacity, is available through a free beta test for all Canadians that will run until October.
Technology uses the starlink of Spacex using low-european class satellites and national wireless spectrum of Rogers, which is to automatically add cellphone to areas without cell service.
This is to help customers to be associated with some of the most remote parts in Canada and with rural highways.
Rogers President and CEO Tony Staffieri says the announcement “represents the next major jump in wireless connectivity”.
After the test, Rogers Satellite will not be included without additional cost to customers on the Rogers Ultimate Plan and will be available for all Canadians for $ 15 per month.
Customers participating in beta trials will get a monthly discount of monthly for one year.
