Man held in West Bengal for 2007 Mumbai slum murder over petty quarrel

Mumbai: A 45-year-old man who allegedly killed his friend over a petty quarrel in 2007 in a South Mumbai slum and fled was arrested from West Bengal. The Cuffe Parade police arrested Raju alias Rajib Kalu Shaikh (47), who killed his room partner, Nilanchak Panigrahi.
The incident dates back to Oct 15, 2007 when accused Shaikh and Panigrahi were sitting in a corner of the house and drinking liquor. Suddenly, there was an argument between them, and Shaikh took a kitchen knife, stabbed Panigrahi, and fled. The injured Panigrahi was rushed to Saint George Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The Cuffe Parade police registered a murder case and searched for the accused for months but failed. Recently, the police learned that the accused was in Mushirabad in West Bengal, from where they laid a trap and arrested him.
