No evidence in murder case, man acquitted

Thane: The Thane Court acquitted a man in the murder case of a married woman at Diva in 2016, after the prosecution failed to prove charges in court. The judge stated that ‘mere suspicion is not sufficient to prove the guilt’.
Imteyaz Nanhe Khan, who was charged with the murder of Khushbu Mishra, was acquitted by additional sessions judge A N Sirsikar.
On Mar 20, 2016, when Sachin Mishra, husband of the deceased, returned from night shift to find his wife Khushbu dead in their Diva apartment.Initially registered as an accidental death, the case was later investigated as a murder after post-mortem results revealed death by asphyxiation.
In 2019, the police filed murder charges against Khan based on call detail records of frequent communication between him and the deceased. The prosecution claimed there was an illicit relationship between Khan and the deceased, with Khan allegedly pressuring her to seek a divorce. —Nishikant Karlikar
