Torngat Mountain Visitor gets front ro seat because Black Beer Polar fights bears
When John Sigardson of Hafnarfjordur in Iceland was traveling in Northern Labrador earlier this week, he captured a vision on his camera, he thought he would never see – a mother polar bear fighting a black bear.
Sigardson described the encounter as remarkable and unexpected. He was traveling below Buffin Island with others in an expedition from Bafin Island, and told the CBC that he was watching a lot of polar bears.
But on Tuesday, he saw a mother and her cub on the edge of a seal.
Sigardson said, “It was quite pleasant to the witness. We made a good distance. And suddenly we saw another mother and cub, also polar bear.”
“And they were contacted and there was a little fight between mothers, but obviously there was enough for seal.”
He said that two couples of mothers and cubs shared the seal body, but it happened that was extraordinary.
“We could have seen a black bear a little ahead of the hill going near the polar bear and we told ourselves that this is not going to happen. There is no conflict of any kind, but the black bear continued and it made all the way for the polar bear and the polar bears were not happy with this … and there was no attack …
But Maa Polar Bear eventually scared the black bear, he said, he said that he had not seen anything like this in his journey of many years.
Sigardson had earlier heard stories of other people in the same area by looking at the polar bear and black bear at the same time, but there was nothing like their encounter. Along with his colleagues, he is not able to find similar encounters while searching for photos.

“It seems really pleasant to be able to share and so people can see what happened. Many people do not believe that it is real, it is some kind of AI, but not it, so … it looks really good.”
Sigardson says he will remember the day for the rest of his life.
