Trump, citing national security, some order 50% tariff on copper imports.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing national security, signed an announcement with a 50 percent tariff order on some copper imports, the White House said.

According to a fact sheet issued by the White House, the announcement imposes 50 percent tariff on semi-taiyar copper products and copper-intensive derived products.

The statement said that tariffs will exclude copper scrap and copper input materials such as copper ore, concentrations, mats, cathode and anode.

The remedy came after an American investigation under Section 232, which was ordered by Trump in February.

The section of the US trade law allows the President to put levy on some goods that are said to be threatened by “national security”.

With tariffs, the order asks for steps to support the domestic copper industry, including 25 percent of the high quality scrap produced in the US, which is also sold within the country.
