I could not see what was right around the corner because I was sitting in the doctor’s office, the optometrist was running through some vision test. I had booked this appointment after a long time, it became a struggle to see words and parts of the sentences. Google told me that the symptoms were similar to cataracts, so I did not think there was no major concern or hurry.
“Well a doctor, is it cataract?” I asked, with a child’s arrogant attitude, who trusts Google more than a scientist or doctor.
“No,” he replied, explaining that I was experiencing the spotted degeneration. “To keep it in simple words, there are holes in your retina.”
He went to tell me that there was no cure.
My wife and I was shocked. I had a healthy lifestyle and no medicine. how could this happen to me?
As soon as he gave me the house, I looked out of the window and looked at the huge parts of the ground, which lost all his color in a short time spent in optometrist. I used to look at the endless sky-this seems to me never ending life, which will now fail and be banned.
Anita, my wife, broke the silence, saying, “Don’t worry, I will become your eyes.”
She was always helpful and encouraged me through all our steps and works in everything from India to Muscat, through the decision of our daughter coming and joining Canada in 2018.

The audience of total blindness disturbed me. I did not want to depend on others or the purpose of their kindness.
Then after a visit with friends, my wife was driving us home, while I praised the golden sunset and green fields, which was in a distance with some buildings. It happened to me that if the buildings were close, they would have blocked my idea about the beautiful evening sky.
At that moment, I had an epiphene: if I could see my vision loss as something in distance, I would still be able to see the beautiful landscape of my life.
I was blessed with good health at that point. I was fortunate to have seen Suskechewan’s living sky, unilateral segments of sand, when traveling by road from Muscat to Dubai, the bizarre city of Winchester in England, the valley of Valley in India where the sweet intoxicating smell of flowers made some people unconscious. Yes, I was blessed!

I started talking more to people and simply started using. This was just a cold vintry day when I interacted with a young man who sat near me with the help of his dog and his white cane.
“I have seen you many times before in this bus, but used to be a woman with you,” I said while talking.
“Yes,” she replied, “she is my wife. She usually comes with me, if she is independent.”
As we continued to talk, he told me that he had become blind and was very good in using supporting technology, helping him to continue working. His confidence was an inspiration for me. The world may have seen him as no vision, but this stranger gave me a vision for hope and future.
I am now in contact with some organizations that help other disabled people to get jobs or start their business. I know there are many rivers to cross – my advance age, my continuous vision loss, and the fact that my previous work experiences were in countries such as Dubai and India instead of Canada. However, I hope. It is highly hopeful. When the time comes, I will be able to employment or will start my own business.
When I work hard and wait for this to happen, I will enjoy the heavenly beauty around me throughout the year – colored leaves, pure white blankets of ice and diamonds like diamonds like diamonds in bright sunlight. I will enjoy the beauty of summer nights with my sparkling stars.
I will not let the possibility of obstacles in distance ruin my happiness in the beauty of my nearby, or I am able to live here and now.
