Health officials in Manitoba are investigating a serious incident after the family of an 82-year-old woman said she died after waiting more than 30 hours for hospital care.

Clinic staff said Price needed IV antibiotics and more intensive care social media post Her daughter said, and she was transferred to Grace Hospital.

He was put on a stretcher in the hallway and waited for hours, his daughter said. During that time his condition worsened considerably.

Price was transferred to St. Boniface Hospital, where he later died.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, which oversees both hospitals, confirmed Wednesday that Price’s death is being investigated as a serious incident — an incident where people who use Manitoba’s health system suffer serious, unexpected harm.

In a statement, Kerstin Jordan, WRHA’s chief nursing, allied health and quality officer, said the health authority “expresses our deepest condolences to Ms Price’s family.”

Jordan said the WRHA’s patient safety team has “launched a comprehensive review of the circumstances that led to this incident,” and officials are “focused on identifying improvements that help ensure incidents like this do not happen again.”
