London, ONTS-resident Marsi Gallant lost her hair when she was about five years old.

Allopacea Advocate says he woke up one morning and saw his hair on his pillow. Her mother examined and found a bald place, and Galant soon came to know the alopenia Areta, a condition that is sometimes called spot baldness.

During the next decade, Galant began a journey that included several doctors’ visits. Her alopecia increased in the Arta Alopecia Universalis, and she eventually lost all her hair on her body.

“When I was a child, whether in school or in football, I was always thinking about it continuously,” Galant said, who coordinates young engagement and special projects at Canadian Allopacea Areta Foundation (Canf).

He spent years to receive treatment ranging from lotions to steroid injections, his hair was also growing up to the shoulder length at one point in his adolescence.

Now 24, Gallant has embraced his position completely, and is a lawyer for partial or full hair loss.

While hair loss is usually considered in most men, experts say that women can also experience it for many reasons.

As Canadian dermatology associationAbout 40 percent of women will have some form of thinning hair by the age of 50. Research shows that They increase the number during menopause,

While there are remedies that can slow the process, there is no treatment.

Here women should know about alopecia.

What is alopecia?

Dermatologist Dr. According to Renee Beach, Alopecia is a medical term that indicates any type of hair loss, which runs a clinic in Toronto.

Alopecia may be either stains or non-humb. The beach states that non-careing alopecia is the most common form.

She says that with the condition of stains, hair follicles are replaced by scar tissue, which can be difficult to treat.

CBC Podcast Host Dr. Brian Goldman said, “Scarring allopacea is a minority of circumstances, but it is disturbing because there is an inflammatory component.” diet,

“I like it, instead of growing a lawn of grass, our skull has replaced the grass lawn with concrete; and it is a landscape, where, often, often, once hair goes away, it is very difficult, if not impossible, if not impossible, to reproduce.”

In addition to Alopecia Areta, examples of non-serialing alopecia include Androogenetic alopecia, sometimes called male-or female-mental hair loss, which is mainly a genetic condition, and telogen unuvium, which is a temporary hair scales due to stress.

The beach states that in the case of pattern hair loss, female-pattern baldness and male-pattern baldness may be different.

The female-paternal hair loss or thinness is usually on the crown or skull, and the skull is more visible.

Conversely, traditional male-paternal hair loss is thinner with temples and behind the crown of the head.

What is the reason for hair loss?

Dr. Lisa Kelets, a dermatologist who also runs a clinic in Toronto, says why women have hair loss experience, there are hundreds of it.

For example, Androgen – hormones that produce sex characteristics – are often associated with male pattern hair loss. Whereas Androgen plays a role In Androogenetic Alopecia in women, beach said that different types of other types of factors can contribute.

“Another components of Androogenetic alopecia are genes or genetic factors,” she said.

“We know that, when we look at our parents or siblings, our first-degree relatives, this is a very strong marker how our own hair will move forward.”

People sometimes wrongly believe that their maternal or ancestral grandfather is responsible for passing the genes of so-called hair loss, but Kelet says the causes are “multilateral”.

Pregnancy, personal stress and even low nutrients can all contribute to hair loss.

“Some of these can be obtained with blood tests and blood screening, but some of them will really have to see our own ourselves and say, ‘Well, what has changed in my life in the last three to six months, and how have my body responded to that change?” The beach said.

How to treat hair loss

Treatment of hair loss includes over-the-counter lotion to prescription drugs and even scalp injections for hair growth.

“One of the on-labeled remedies for more than 20 years has been using minoxidil,” the beach said, a drug is mentioned that is usually known as rhein.

“It has been shown when the use of both is the top and more commonly, generally, to be able to expand the phase of hair growth … and is able to do this with minimal side effects.”

The oral finerids sold under the brand propesia, health are authorized for male-pattern baldness by Canada, but are sometimes determined Women off-labeled,

“When they are taken in special doses, they help maintain hair in those androgen sensitive sites such as Crown.”

But there is fineride Found the cause of weak side-effects In men, the inability to feel emotions, loss of libido, and even suicidal ideas are included. In late April, American drug regulators warned There are “potentially serious risk” associated with topical yogas of finsteride Too. Finasteride is not approved by Canada for women, but studies have shown Women who take it can sometimes experience side effects such as libido, breast swelling and tenderness, headache and irregular menstruation.

When it comes to dealing with hair loss, however, the beach says that it is important to remember two principles: no cure, and any treatment works only as long as patients are committed to it.

“I tell the patients, treat your toothbrush (solution),” he said.

“As long as you have to keep your hair and care about whatever you have and perhaps a minor bit growing, you have to use (treatment).”

Child and self -esteem

However, the beach accepts that hair loss can be especially difficult for women, saying that it “does a number at someone’s self -esteem”.

Meri Galant passed through various treatments over all the years, wearing a hat and wig to hide her hair loss.

He experienced bullying with his colleagues during his school years, and gradually advocated to educate his classmates better, while in some ways he was working on re-achieving his own confidence.

In high school, he organized assemblies to educate new students about Alopasia, to avoid the stigma of hair loss.

“Was I 100 percent comfortable in my skin? Absolutely,” Galant said.

“I still hid under a wig for many years after that, but at least I started experimenting with wigs and just to wear them instead of having fun with them.”

He eventually decided to embrace his hair loss completely in grade 12, shaving his head before his high school graduation photos.

“I love the bald and love the representation that we need in the world,” said Galant.

She says that worried about diluting hair should weigh their options before trying any and all possible treatment, sometimes at a large price.

“Now when I know there is a community there, I think maybe I would have given a little different response,” Gallant said about her own treatment journey.

She says that organizations such as canf, help to provide encouraging, safe space for anyone living with hair loss.

“When you find the community and you find people you can join, who have experiences like you, then our stories are the most powerful thing about us,” Galant said.
