Ludhiana: The civic body is set to widen Dugri bridge at a cost of Rs 79 lakh under the Smart City Mission.
This project will facilitate commuters by expanding one side of the Dugri canal bridge, specifically from the Dugri area towards the Atam Nagar police post.
Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu inaugurated the project to widen the Dugri canal bridge on Thursday.
Officials claimed that the width of one side of the canal bridge would be increased to 10-12 feet under this project, which will providing significant relief for commuters.
At present, the narrow width of the bridge causes traffic snarls. Kulwant Singh Sidhu had promised residents to widen the bridge before the Vidhan Sabha elections. This promise has now been fulfilled as the work to widen the bridge has commenced.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Dugri market association and residents of the nearby areas. MC superintending engineer Sanjay Kanwar, along with other officials, was also present on the occasion.
MLA Sidhu assured that the construction work would not disrupt traffic on the canal bridge. He emphasised that the widening of the bridge would significantly alleviate traffic snarls, providing major relief to residents.
